The HT Series

Hydronic expansion tanks are the latest in a long line of quality products brought to you bycircle Flexcon Industries.  Constructed with time tested clench ring technology, HT tanks feature butyl diaphragms engineered for longer life. Butyl rubber is the material of choice for American heating systems as it offers low permeability rates at higher temperatures. Our symmetrical tank and diaphragm shape maximizes tank drawdown, and minimizes diaphragm wear.  This design virtually eliminates diaphragm stretch, which enhances longevity.

Testing...Every Flexcon Hydronic tank is pressure tested and backed with a five year written, limited warranty.

Specifications...The In-Line HT Series are available from 2 to 15 gallons and utilize a welded system connection with built-in hex nut for easy installation. The recessed shrader valve has an o-ring seal to ensure airside integrity. An appliance quality finish means many years of service in damp basements and crawl spaces. The SXHT Series are freestanding, and range in size from 15 to 81 gallons.

The Problem

Increased enforcement of plumbing codes has  led to "no return" valves (check valves, backflow preventers, water meters)  being installed on domestic water lines.  This results in a closed system with  potential dangers.

In the normal cycle of a water heater, as  water leaves the tank to satisfy demand, cold water replaces it and is then  heated.

The addition of a "no return" valve creates  a closed plumbing system subject to dangerous pressures. Water when heated  expands.  With no outlet for the expanded water, pressure increases and in many  cases will result in safety valve discharge.

BTU´S Wasted

Safety relief valves are not intended to operate regularly. They are designed to prevent a catastrophe in the event of a  system malfunction.

Continued operation of a safety relief valve can result in it’s failure.  In addition, this spilling of the expanded water is  pouring BTU´s down the drain!

The Solution...No More Wasted BTU´S!

Installation of a Flexcon WH Series Thermal  Expansion Tank provides control on water heaters with "no return" valves. Using  a patented double diaphragm design, the WH tank provides a place for the water  to expand into. The double diaphragm is permanently separated from the tank’s air precharge. As the water expands, it compresses the air in the tank,  allowing the water heater to function within its design parameters.   More importantly, a WH thermal expansion tank eliminates the problem of nuisance cycling of the safety relief valve.
