Air Eliminators

Air eliminators, air separators, and expansion tanks are vital in any hydronic heating system. Air elimination is important to maintain proper system pressure and manage oxygen saturation, which helps prevent corrosion, pump damage, and reduced heat transfer, while prolonging system life. Air elimination products and expansion tanks will remove unwanted oxygen from your hydronic system, to reduce oxygen diffusion corrosion and maintain system efficiency.
We offer ASME-rated and non-ASME rated products, including air separators, expansion tanks, and air vents, to keep your hydronic heating system operating at its peak.
Managing Thermal Expansion
As water in a hydronic system is heated, it expands at a rate of approximately 0.00021 (1/°C), meaning that for every one degree Celsius the water is heated, its volume expands by x1.0002. Unchecked thermal expansion will negatively affect your heating system's pressure, which will throw off your pump curves and velocities, which will in turn raise or lower your system's performance curves, adversely impacting performance. Expansion tanks help compensate for increases in volume and pressure, keeping your system's pressure at ideal levels to maintain maximum efficiency and safety.
Air Eliminator Products
Air elimination and managing thermal expansion go hand in hand in a hydronic hot water heating system, and McCoy Sales has everything you need for air eliminators for ideal system performance. Our selection of air separators, expansion tanks, and air vents makes it easy to find exactly what you need for your system requirements.
- Air Separators:
- McCoy Sales' offers air separators that will efficiently remove air from your hydronic system. We have a wide selection of air separators to choose from, for a variety of system applications.
- We offer the Taco 4900 air eliminator, a high-performance air separator model which removes dirt as well as unwanted air. The 4900 is perhaps the most high-tech air separator available today, employing PALL ring technology to eliminate micro bubbles, sand, dirt and rust particles from your system. It's ideal for high-capacity hydronic heating systems, and offers easy maintenance and cleaning, including a full port blow down for dirt and particle removal. The Taco 4900 air eliminator is McCoy Sales' top-of-the-line model for commercial systems. ASME rated.
- McCoy Sales also carries the Taco Vortech, a mid-performance air separator perfect for residential and light commercial applications. Its tangential flow pattern, primary separation chamber, and Taco Hy-Vent make it an incredibly effective and reliable air eliminator unit. Non-ASME rated.
- Taco air scoops are McCoy Sales' most economical offering for hydronic system air separators. Our air scoops never require maintenance, and their special design and cast iron construction ensure years of dependable service. With proven, no-fail performance, an air scoop is a superb choice for air eliminator use in residential hydronic heating systems. Non-ASME rated.
- Expansion Tanks:
- McCoy Sales offers an array of top-quality expansion tanks from Taco and Flexcon for your hydronic heating system.
- Taco's CA and CX Series expansion tanks use bladders and diaphragm chambers to keep water and air permanently separated in the system, ensuring that no absorption can take place during system cycles. These ASME rated air expansion tanks prevent corrosion and pump cavitations, and provide a stable, tight and closed hydronic system.
- CBX expansion tanks from Taco are available in multiple sizes and capacities to fit your system requirements. The bladder design of these air expansion tanks ensures permanent separation of air and water in the system for durable, reliable service. ASME rated.
- McCoy Sales also carries Taco's PAX Series potable water expansion tanks, which feature bladder systems for permanent air and water separation. The PAX Series offers expansion tank models in multiple sizes and capacities, all built with FDA-approved materials. ASME rated.
- Taco's steel expansion tanks are available in sizes from 15 to 500 gallons, with operating ranges up to 125 PSIG and 375°F. Taco's expansion tanks are available painted or galvanized, can be installed vertically or horizontally, and are ASME rated for top quality and performance.
- Flexcon's HTX and SXHT Series hydronic expansion tanks feature welded steel construction and butyl rubber diaphragms to ensure long life and maximum efficiency. Available in sizes from 2 to 81 gallons, HTX and SXHT Series expansion tanks make it easy to find the right one to meet your hydronic system's specifications.
- McCoy Sales also offers Flexcon's potable water expansion tanks. These tanks utilize a patented double diaphragm system to help prevent over-pressurization, and brass or stainless steel system connections for optimum corrosion resistance. Flexcon's potable water expansion tanks are pressure tested and rated to 150 PSI.
- WWT Series Flex 2 Pro well tanks from Flexcon feature a special diaphragm-and-clutch-ring system to ensure permanent separation of air and water within the system. Available in sizes from 14 to 119 gallons, WWT Series tanks are engineered for superior air and water separation and unrivaled performance.
