Taco
Switching Relays combine clearly labeled PC board layouts with advanced
features that allow for total system customization. Whether using basic
priority switching, plug-in PowerPort cards of add-on power controls, the job is
made easy. External indicator lights provide instant diagnostic
feedback, making a snap of service calls or new installation start-ups. A
green light indicates power is connected. When the thermostat calls for
heat, both the appropriate circulator and red indicating light is energized.
All switching relays are UL listed, use standard "ice cube"
replaceable relays and are compatible with conventional and programmable
thermostats. For those larger jobs, the switching relays can be expanded
up to 20 zones with priority. Taco Switching Relays are available in one,
two, three, four and six zones.
Taco Zone Valve Controls work with two-, three- or four-wire zone
valves. Fully fuse protected, it also includes and isolated end
switch and built in priority switch. The contractor friendly PC board
layout eliminates the problems caused by incorrect wiring and the
"unfinished" look of conventional zone valve installations. The
sturdy screw connections add additional reliability, while the external
indicator lights provide instant diagnostic feedback, reducing installation
time. All Taco Zone Valve Controls are UL listed and available in three,
four, five and six zones. The indicator lights show full functionality of
the products wired to the Zone Valve Control. The green light indicates
power is connected. When the thermostat calls for heat, both the
appropriate zone valve and yellow indicating light is energized. When the
zone valve is fully open, the end switch relay and red indicating light are
energized.
PowerPort Cards
The
PC700 series of Power Controls can
be used in conjunction with any Taco expandable relay unit (-EXP model). There
are no complex wiring diagrams, simply plug the interface cable directly into
the expandable relay and then attach the supplied sensor; That’s it. By
controlling the supply water temperature based on the outdoor temperature, the
heat lost from the building is matched by the heat input to the building. Firing
cycles of the boiler are also optimized to increase comfort and provide energy
savings. The ease-of-installation combined with full diagnostic capabilities
makes it simple to upgrade any system. Taco Power Controls can be used in
parallel with the PC600 series of Power Port Cards to further enhance total
system operation.
The
PC600 series of PowerPort Cards can be used in conjunction with any Taco
expandable relay unit. Each Taco expandable relay (-EXP model) comes standard
with three PowerPort slots to accept any combination of cards. By controlling
the operation of the circulators attached to the switching relay, the PC600
cards are an ideal way to provide energy savings, system protection and an
increased comfort level. With no additional wiring, the PC600 cards can also be
used in parallel with the Taco Add-on Power Controls to add even greater system
control and boiler optimization. Mix and match the cards and controls to upgrade
any system.
The Taco Priority Zoning Circulator combines the reliability of the
"00" Circulator with the convenience and efficiency of a PC board
mounted switching relay package. Each Zoning Circulator has low and high
voltage terminal strips for ease of electrical hookup as well as built-in

Electric Zone Valves
 Ever since
reliable electric zone valves were developed many years ago, they have been by
far the most widely used device for zoning a system. They eliminate the need for
a Flo-Chek valve and relays, and simplify the piping. Their compactness
permits great flexibility of location in the system. This and the silent
operation of the Taco valves having heat motor type operators permits
installation in or near rooms where noiseless operation is desired, such as
bedrooms. A single circulator in the system can supply from two to many
zone valves.
A Taco Electric Thermostat is used to sense the temperature in each zone and
control operation of the zone valve for the zone. The valve may be located
within the zoned space or at any convenient location in the pipe loop for the
zone. In a series loop system, usually the valves are placed at the
discharge side of the boiler. In a two-pipe system, the valves are
placed at the radiation unit supply or return.

The 5000 Series Mixing Valve is a dual purpose mixing or diverting valve. It
is ASSE 1017 approved, providing shut-off reliability on either a hot or cold
water supply failure. The high flow and low head loss characteristics make the
5000 Series ideal for domestic water, radiant applications, installations with
large variations in flow rate and supply conditions, and installations requiring
tightly controlled water temperature. The valve’s unique design and advanced
thermostatic element ensures a stable mixed water temperature throughout the
extended 85° - 150° F range. The 5000 Series provides fail-safe security and
ultimate performance in a mixing valve.
Feed Valves
Taco Pressure Reducing Valves are used to automatically feed water to a hot
water heating system whenever pressure in the system drops below the pressure
setting in the valve. They feature fast fill rates, an exclusive fast fill lever
lock, built-in check to prevent emptying the system if incoming pressure fails,
union connections with tailpiece standard and the pressure setting adjustment
separated from the fast fill lever for easy, fast adjustment. Available for
systems in a pressure range from 10 to 25 PSI.

Created especially to eliminate noisy water hammer. The Taco GT Whisper Guard
operates in a totally different way from fast-acting solenoids. How? It closes
slowly and no water hammer occurs. The unique end-switch design permits control
of the heat pump by the valve. This allows movement of cold water into the coil
before the heat pump actually starts. The bronze body and corrosion resistant
internal parts provide for long, trouble-free service. The Taco GT Whisper Guard
is available with 3/4” thread (5101-G2), 1” thread (557-G2), or 3/4” sweat
(556-G2).
Thermostats/Transformers
The Taco thermostat has an adjustable heat anticipator and temperature range
from 50° F to 90° F, and requires a 24 Volt, two-wire circuit
The Taco transformer reduces line voltage to low voltage when used in
conjunction with Taco Zone Valves.
Taco Venturi fittings are designed to divert water flow from a given zone to
the by-pass loop. The flow from the zone is partially diverted through the
by-pass and then returned back into the zone. The Venturi Fitting creates a
differential pressure that make some of the flow want to divert through the
by-pass and back to the zone. The Taco Venturi Fitting can be used in up-feed or
down-feed applications. The typical application for the Taco Venturi Fitting is
to divert heated water through kickspace heaters, convectors, radiators, or base
board. The Venturi is ideal for retro-fit applications where more radiation
needs to be added to a existing job.
Taco Flo-Cheks have dependably stopped gravity circulation in forced hot
water heating systems for over 40 years. Flo-Cheks open automatically when the
circulator starts running. They feature a thumb screw to manually open the
valve, and are available in a cast iron universal body and a bronze sweat
in-line configuration. A unique, re-designed weighted check on the 221 and 222
models features an enhanced seating and quieter operation on high flow systems.
WAGS stands for Water And Gas Safety valve. The
WAGS valve is designed to shut off the water supply (plus gas supply for
gas-fired heaters) in the event of a water leak from a hot water heater, thus
minimizing water damage and possible gas leakage. The valve can be installed on
all styles of water heaters. The valve is fully mechanical and requires no
external power supply.
Your water heater will eventually fail and leak!
Most water heaters fail within 7-10 years. That’s about 5 million tank
failures EVERY year. Without a WAGS valve, a leaking tank keeps refilling and
leaking. The WAGS prevents disastrous floods and untold damage to your property.
The WAGS sits in a drip pan under the water heater
and is activated when leaking water accumulates to a level of ¾" in the
pan. Once activated the valve shuts off the water and gas supply, indicated by a
red pop-up tab.
The Taco "SD" Series Suction Diffuser has numerous features built
into one unit that provides the optimum flow and protection for the pump. The

exclusive "1600" cool bearing cartridge design isolates the bearing
from the effects of system temperatures to greatly extend bearing life. In
addition, standardization of the bearing cartridge means that a single bearing
cartridge can be used to service the entire product line.
The Taco 1900 Series In-Line Pump is available in 5 models ranging in size
from 1 1/2" X 1 1/2" to 2" X 2". These pumps range in
performance capacity from 10 GPM to 235 GPM with head capacities up to 68'. This

Each pump we sell is backed by
Taco’s reputation for quality and dependability, and engineered for years of
trouble-free service. Taco vertical inline pumps require no isolation pads. Their
simplified in-the-line design saves you time and money. Should a service call or maintenance ever be required, our pumps
pull out from the back. There’s no need to disconnect the pump from the
piping system to work on it. Each vertical inline pump features Taco’s close coupled design
for improved alignment and increased seal life. Lower installed cost
because of the way we’ve engineered our pumps, they require less
time to install, and require no special tools or hardware. We provide either
Direct or Split Coupled configuration to improve serviceability on
large horsepower pumps. What’s more,
the seal can be serviced without removing the motor.

CI Series Pumps meet the latest
standards for hydraulic performance and dimensional characteristics. Parts standardization and
interchangeability for the CI Pump line results in reduced parts inventories and
lower costs for multiple pump installations. An easy-to-replace, slip-on
shaft sleeve facilitates seal maintenance in the field and lowers maintenance
costs. The exclusive dry shaft design protects the pump shaft by
eliminating contact between the shaft and the circulating fluid. CI Pumps
also feature seal flush line taps, allowing the installation of a filter to
protect the seal from non-condensable particles present in the system. In
addition, pressure tappings on suction and discharge flanges promote easy
verification of pump performance. Flows range up to 2700 GPM at heads up to
300’ TDH.
FI Series Pumps meet the latest
standards for hydraulic performance and dimensional characteristics. Parts standardization and
interchangeability for the FI Pump line results in reduced parts inventories and
lower costs for multiple pump installations. An easy-to-replace, slip-on
shaft sleeve facilitates seal maintenance in the field and lowers maintenance
costs. The exclusive dry shaft design protects the pump shaft by
eliminating contact between the shaft and the circulating fluid. FI Pumps
also feature seal flush line taps, allowing the installation of a filter to
protect the seal from non-condensable particles present in open systems.
In addition, pressure tappings on the suction and discharge flanges promote easy
verification of pump performance. All FI Pumps are provided with the
unique Taco Space Base to minimize misalignment and facilitate maintenance.
The guide rail design of the space base allows the pump and motor to be easily
slid in and out of place for servicing. The space base eliminates the need
for expensive spacer couplings which complicate the alignment process. The
space base also provides ample open space for easy grouting. Flows range up to
2700 GPM at heads up to 300’ TDH.
The "TA" Series Split Case
Pump model represents a major advance in pump design. By utilizing a new modular
construction technique, pump performance from 60 GPM up to 6,000 GPM is
available from just three basic bearing and shaft modules.
Modular construction results in:
-
Maximum operating pressure of 300
PSI. The rugged, heavy-duty casing design allows higher working pressures.
-
Quick access for service and
maintenance. The top half of the casing is easily removed to allow service
of rotating unit without disturbing piping system.
-
Low NPSH requirements and
increased efficiency. The impeller is specifically designed to assure
minimum NPSH and maximum pump efficiency as well as stable performance
throughout the operating range.
-
Compact arrangement increases
seal and bearing life. The mechanical seal option reduces the shaft length
and minimizes shaft deflection, thereby increasing both seal and bearing
life.
-
Balanced axial loads for maximum
bearing life. The double suction design virtually eliminates axial thrust
and reduces bearing loading. The bearings are heavy-duty type, grease
lubricated.
-
No need to replace casing if wear
rings require service. The case wear rings are separate from the case itself
and are replaceable.
Extra heavy construction of the pump
casing provides greater structural integrity and reduces the risk of distortion.
The pump feet are cast integrally with the bottom half of the volute casing and
extended to provide support to the inserts which carry the pump bearings.
With the top half of the casing
removed, the complete pump rotating assembly can be withdrawn without disturbing
the piping system. Pump inlet and outlet flanges are cast in the bottom half
casing. Flanges and casing are tapped and plugged for gauge and priming
connections. An air release valve and flushing connections are provided in the
upper casing. The top and bottom half casings are aligned by dowels, sealed by a
gasket and bolted together.
The impeller is generally of the
double-entry type with Francis vanes, keyed to the shaft and locked in position.
The impeller hubs are designed to accommodate impeller wear rings, if required.
Impellers are balanced dynamically and hydraulically. Passage ways are smoothed
for maximum efficiency.

Taco, Inc. has issued a seventh version of
its popular product selection and specifying software program, TacoNet®.
Version 7.0 contains more than 5,600 product CAD drawings and its enhanced
compatibility includes Windows95/NT/ME and XP operating platforms.
TacoNet’s core information centers on three of Taco’s major product lines:
pumps, heat exchangers and expansion tanks. Version 7.0 comes with several
important new additions to better assist specifying engineers in product
selection: pump selections can now be calculated for fluids other than water;
updated expansion tank and heat exchanger information includes new models and
additional sizes, and variable speed pump performance curves can now be
calculated.
Feedback from the field was the impetus behind the addition of a Head Loss
Estimator to version 7.0’s Pump Selection Program. The Head Loss Estimator
allows the user to determine system head loss when fluids – especially
coolants such as ethylene and propylene glycol – are used. The result is an
accurate means of correcting for head loss in a piping system that requires
fluids other than, or in addition to, water.
Variable speed pumps are increasingly in demand to help boost system efficiency
and TacoNet 7.0 comes with the ability to generate performance curves for these
pumps. The software can specify specific design operating speeds based on
maximum and minimum speeds as well as respond to a prompt to show various other
speeds.
Taco has expanded its heat exchanger product category and TacoNet 7.0 includes
new models as well as the addition of a brazed plate heat exchanger selection
module. Expansion tank additions to the Taco inventory now include information
and submittal data sheets for Taco’s new CBX and CA tanks. Look for them under
TacoNet’s Expansion Tank Selection Program.
TacoNet 7.0 also comes with an advanced update button to keep users up to date
on the latest changes and additions. Through a direct Internet link, the TacoNet
server will regularly compare the latest updates with the user’s and install
them automatically.
“Behind every change and improvement to TacoNet is a mission to make our
program the most complete and easy-to-use software selection and specifying
product available,” says Tim Smith, Taco’s marketing director and a guiding
hand in TacoNet development since its inception over a decade ago. Changes and
additions reflect the needs of the marketplace and the perspective of the
thousands of registered users who work with TacoNet on a regular basis.
LoadMatch is Taco’s innovative single-pipe
system for both heating and cooling system applications. LoadMatch provides
better comfort than all-air systems as well as conventional two-pipe hydronic
systems. In doing so, it eliminates the need for most balancing valves and
expensive, energy-consuming control valves by replacing them with small,
energy-efficient Taco LoadMatch circulators. The circulators direct water to
where it needs to go, as opposed to forcing the water through the system’s
piping loop.
LoadMatch delivers better comfort and total
control, and saves energy and money that would otherwise be spent on piping,
fittings and control and balancing valves. System savings with LoadMatch can
typically save up to 30 % of the system’s life cycle costs.
LoadMatch piping systems have been specified and
installed throughout the U.S. and Canada since the late 1990’s in both new
buildings and in retrofit projects. Facilities include hospitals and hotels,
office buildings and apartment complexes.
HS2
software enables consulting-specifying engineers to design hydronic systems with
the use of a powerful Windows®-based software package made available
exclusively through Taco.
HS2 allows designers to cut system design in
half, eliminate calculation errors and make system changes in minutes.
The HS2 software was developed by the Van Boerum
& Frank Associates design firm located in Salt Lake City, Utah. “It really
works the way an engineer thinks,” says Ben Davis, project engineer and the
lead individual behind the HS2 software’s development. Davis describes the
software as “intuitive” from the design engineer’s perspective, employing
symbols in a schematic layout that look just like the actual equipment being
specified.
The challenge to develop a software design
program started at Van Boerum & Frank about ten years ago, according to
Davis, who felt that there had to be a “better way” of HVAC system design
than elongated spreadsheets. When a prototype software package was at last ready
to be shown industry manufacturers by the time of the 2000 AHR Expo in Dallas,
Van Boerum & Frank discovered that only Taco was interested in taking a
closer look at it.
By the time of the next AHR Expo, in Atlanta in
2001, Taco informed the firm’s software marketing arm – HVAC Solution, Inc.
– that “You’ve really got something here. We’d like to build upon
this,” Davis relates.
That led to Taco becoming the exclusive licensee
of the hydronic version of the software. The software became a perfect match for
LoadMatch, as all LoadMatch equipment parts were integrated into the
software’s program. “LoadMatch and HS2 came together at just the right
time,” says Davis.
